Project Details
Working as Creative Director on a brand refresh, I collaborated with their in-house marketing team and a junior designer to outline their upcoming needs and current pain-points with their logo and imagery.
I came up with a number of solutions before we landed on this theme involving circles. The circle has been an element that has stuck with them through the last few decades, used in different ways, so it was great to find a solution that continued this identifier in a fresh new way.
Since the organization is involved with institutional education, it was extremely important to keep accessibility at the forefront. All the colours chosen had been tested for contrast, and the official brand font chosen contains an extremely high number of international characters.
Successes:
- The logo was improved for legibility at smaller sizes.
- A special logo treatment was provided for use on sub-projects and events.
- A new colour palette was chosen with appropriate contrast for use as background colours.
- A new font was chosen for its inclusion of Canadian First Nations characters.
- A set of decorative circle-themed design elements was created for use on images to associate them with their brand.
- A set of B.C. nature imagery was chosen for the parent organization use, while a set of student/teacher themed images with integrated circle elements was chosen for all their projects.
- An extensive brand usage guide was written with a focus on how staff would apply this to their work.
A future website re-design is in the planning stages. In the meantime, I assisted with some minor website updates to their old site to ensure it matched their new branding.
